     The inspiration for the shire, the place where Hobbits live. This is Sarehole mill, I grew up in this area after moving from South Africa after the death of my father. This place had a few spots of countryside to walk and spend days in. This was the main part of the inspiration. A few square miles of country land in Sarehole. I also incorporated the corn mill by the water. I even Wrote to a newspaper about this specific topic.

     This is the cover of one of my books, The Hobbit. This book was written in 1937, about 45 years after my birth. I sent it to my publisher and his son wrote a review to see if it was worthy to be sold. What happens in the story is a Hobbit by the name of Bilbo goes on an adventure with a group of Dwarves and a wizard by the name of Gandalf. The leader of the Dwarves' name was Thorin. Thorin and Gandalf were originally going to have their names switched around.

This is my wife Edith Bratt, well Edith Tolkien. She was The Lúthien to my Beren. When we were walking along the country side, she would sing and dance. I fell in love with her when I was eighteen, she was older than I and wasn't Catholic. I was forbidden to see her until I was old enough to marry. She was already betrothed to someone else when I met up with her again, but she ended it with him and married me, after becoming a Catholic.
